Hamburg’s Rupert Marnie isn’t your typical floor-focussed wares provider. Threading his way somewhere at the junction of proto-techno playfulness, sci-fi movie soundtracking, acid-drenched exotica, UK breaks mechanisms and metamorphic electroid blends, the German producer has been laying down the foundation to a sound ID truly his own over the years.
From the set of genre-bending releases he’s put out on his own record label, The Press Group, and the intel he gets through co-running Hamburg’s record store, Remoto Records, fueling him with the inspirations and knowledge he can reinject into his own compositions, onto his regular appearances at Hamburg’s seminal club, Golden Pudel, Marnie has been embracing the widest array of influences.
His sets, fusing his wide-ranging love for all things oddball and euphoric, are a cross- pollinating maelstrom of different styles and vibes - from 2000 minimal to straight-out 303-driven offloads, via Detroit electro and knee-buckling breakbeat. Relying on his sound-design background and boundary-pushing approach, Marnie’s music has been featured by like-minded exploratory outlets including Fragments of Reality, XIII, Eya/Lonewolf and Long Vehicle along the way, in addition to playing the likes of Club der Visionäre, Distillery Leipzig, Port Club Odessa, Silbergold FFM and NYC’s highly-rated Lot Radio.
